The Palmerston

On the 27th of February 2004, The Palmerston (formally The Lord Palmerston) re-opened for business following a transformation from a typical 'spit and sawdust' boozer to a welcoming gastro pub.

The driving force behind the change are three forward thinking colleagues, Paul Rigby, Remi Olajoyegbe and Jamie Younger who, following a chance meeting had the shared foresight to see that East Dulwich was on the cusp of it's own transition. From a run down area to an affluent hub for young professionals and families.

With Jamie Younger (Ex-Bibendum) leading from the front as Head-chef, The Palmerston has become a success with customers and critics alike. The Palmerston won 'Gastro Pub of the Year' in the LBC/Independent Newspaper 'Living London Awards 2006' and finished within the top 60 in the Restaurant Magazine 'Top 100 UK Restaurants 2008' mixing with the real big names of the catering industry as well as receiving favourable mentions and reviews from trusted sources in the industry such as Decanter, Hardens, Egon Roney, The AA guide and Michelin.

The Palmerston continues to evolve and strives to offer a high quality dining and drinking experience within and informal environment.

The Herne

The Herne opened its doors on the 7th of September 2006 offering a different pub experience to The Palmerston whilst maintaining the same business ethic of offering the customer a high quality experience in a comfortable surrounding.

With the evolution of East Dulwich well underway it was apparent that there was a place for a family pub in the area. The Herne Tavern proved to be the perfect setting. With a large bar and dining area split into sections ideal for parties of all sizes it provides a homely setting for extended lunches and hearty dinners. The Herne really comes into its own throughout Spring and Summer when the sun shines thanks to the large garden. Ideal for alfresco dining and with a great play area for kids you could easily spend a day between the pub garden and the adjacent Peckham Rye Park.

In addition to everything the pub and garden offers, the former games room was converted into a fully self sufficient 'Barn function room'. Catering for everything from Birthdays to Weddings and with the addition of a marquee the space can cater for large functions.
